Senate Resolution Commemorates the Alliance to Save Energy's 35th Anniversary
On April 18, 2012, the full Senate unanimously approved a resolution commemorating the Alliance’s 35th anniversary. The resolution, S.Res.406, was introduced on March 26 by Sen. Mark Warner (D-Va.) and cosponsored by seven other senators – all of whom sit on the Alliance to Save Energy's Board of Directors.
The resolution recognizes the achievements of the Alliance to Save Energy, which was created on March 18, 1977, by Senators Charles Percy (R-Ill.) and Hubert Humphrey (D-Minn.). The resolution notes that:
- The Alliance is a unique bipartisan, public-policy organization that works with prominent leaders in a variety of fields to promote efficient and clean energy use throughout the world.
- The Alliance's work benefits the U.S. economy, environment and security.
- The Alliance's research shows that energy efficiency and conservation have decreased U.S. annual energy use by over 52 quads in the past 35 years.
- The Alliance has worked internationally for over a decade, helping 30+ developing countries while also launching affiliate nonprofits like the European Alliance to Save Energy and the Australian Alliance to Save Energy.
- The Alliance serves as an authority on energy efficiency to federal and state governments, businesses, and the media.
- The Alliance educates through PSAs and its award-winning Green Schools and Green Campus programs.
- The Alliance partners with other groups to advance energy efficiency through partnerships such as the Building Codes Assistance Project (BCAP), the Southeast Energy Efficiency Alliance (SEEA), the Clean and Efficient Energy Program (CEEP), the Efficient Windows Collaborative (EWC), and the Appliance Standards Awareness Project (ASAP).
After listing these accomplishments, the resolution states: "Be it resolved that the Senate (1) congratulates the Alliance to Save Energy on the 35th anniversary of the incorporation of the Alliance; and (2) recognizes the important contributions that the Alliance to Save Energy has made to further the cause of energy efficiency."
