WASHINGTON—The Alliance to Save Energy released the following statement from President Jason Hartke after the Senate Committee on Energy and Natural Resources advanced several energy efficiency bills Tuesday:

“It’s very encouraging to see these energy efficiency proposals advance through the Senate Energy Committee with bipartisan support. I hope to see the full Senate take them up and pass them as quickly as possible.”

“This slate of bills will weatherize more homes, help manufacturers become more competitive by cutting energy costs, and reduce government spending by improving the efficiency of federal buildings. They will cut energy bills for American families and businesses while reducing greenhouse gas emissions and delivering cleaner air.”

“Thank you to the lead sponsors of these bills – and especially to Alliance Honorary Chair Sen. Jeanne Shaheen (D-N.H.), Honorary Vice Chair Sen. Chris Coons (D-Del), and Honorary Advisor Sen. Susan Collins (R-Maine) – and of course, Honorary Advisor Chairman Lisa Murkowski (R-Alaska).”

The bills supported by the Alliance that were advanced by the Senate Energy and Natural Resources Committee are:

• S. 253, a bill to coordinate the provision of energy retrofitting assistance to schools. (introduced by Sen. Collins)
• S. 715, a bill to improve the productivity and energy efficiency of the manufacturing sector by directing the Secretary of Energy, in coordination with the National Academies and other appropriate Federal agencies, to develop a national smart manufacturing plan and to provide assistance to small- and medium-sized manufacturers in implementing smart manufacturing programs, and for other purposes. • S. 983, a bill to amend the Energy Conservation and Production Act to reauthorize the weatherization assistance program, and for other purposes. (Sen. Coons)
• S. 1245, a bill to improve energy performance in Federal buildings, and for other purposes. (Sen. John Hoeven (R-N.D.))
• S. 1706, a bill to amend the National Energy Conservation Policy Act to encourage the increased use of performance contracting in Federal facilities, and for other purposes. (Sen. Cory Gardner (R-Col.))
• S. 1857, a bill to amend the National Energy Conservation Policy Act to improve Federal energy and water performance requirements for Federal buildings and establish a Federal Energy Management Program. (Murkowski)
• H.R. 762, an Act to amend the Energy Policy and Conservation Act to provide for the dissemination of information regarding available Federal programs relating to energy efficiency projects for schools, and for other purposes. (Rep. Matt Cartwright (D-Penn.))
